Educational Funding/Scholarships
The number of awards available and the award amounts may vary based on applications received and availability of funding. Primarily funded by our annual Festival of Trees event held in December. Application process normally opens in January – February.
1. EOU Senior Scholarship Funding: $5,000

3. Union County High School Graduate Education Funding: $1,000 to $2,500

4. Pro/Tech Scholarships Award: $1,000 to $3,000

For students who like working outdoors, or with their hands, or are planning on taking over a family business, you might be looking at technical, vocational or a trade school. These schools focus on career preparation, giving you all of the skills you need to enter careers like electrician, carpentry, auto mechanic, or certain technology and medical fields, etc. Will consider certification up to two year degree.

1. Live Your Dream Award
Multiple awards available: $1,000 – $3000 each
The Soroptimist Live Your Dream: Education and Training Awards for Women provides women who serve as the primary wage earners for their families with the financial resources to offset costs associated with their efforts to attain higher education or additional skills and training. Recipients can use the award for tuition, books, childcare, carfare or any other education-related expense. Each year, more than $1.6 million is provided in cash grants to women in need. Since the program’s inception in 1972, approximately $30 million has helped tens of thousands of women achieve their dreams of a better life for themselves and their families—leading to stronger communities, nations and the world.

2. Jean McKenzie Award – nominations accepted from Soroptimist members
This award was established in 1993 to honor Jean McKenzie, a Soroptimist Life Member and long-time community leader. Her Soroptimist pin was mounted on a plaque to be given each year to an outstanding Soroptimist.
In 2001, Soroptimist of La Grande combined the Jean McKenzie Award with the Soroptimist Woman of the Year Award honoring one Soroptimist with the “Jean McKenzie Woman of the Year” traveling plaque.
Please nominate a Soroptimist who is an outstanding volunteer in Union County, who cares about our area and tries to “Make a Difference” – a member who has demonstrated community involvement and helping others beyond the club requirement for members. The recipient’s name will be submitted for consideration for the Soroptimist International “Women of Distinction” and/or “Women Helping Women” award.
